The 15th Biennial Scientific meeting was held on 6th – 9th April at the Millenium Hotel in Queenstown, New Zealand. With just over 130 members attending, this was ANZAP’s biggest meeting ever. Those who attended all agreed that the keynote speaker, Professor Ian Needleman’s presentations were of the highest quality and were very well received. He was well supported by a number of ANZAP members who spoke on a variety of interesting topics. Dr Stephen Chen ran a very interesting symposium on problems with implants. The ANZAP medallion competition for graduate students to present their research to the members was won by Dr. Emma Megson from the University of Adelaide. The social programme was a great success. The mystery dinner took the conference attendees on the gondola and up to the Skyline restaurant where they entertained themselves with rides on the luge. This was followed with some wit from two well known local comedians, Gary McCormick and Tim Shadbolt. At the conference dinner on Sat 9th the delegates were entertained by a Maori concert party, who to the delight of everyone, managed to involve some members of ANZAP in their performance. Amongst the awards presented, Dr. John Goodman was presented with honorary life membership of ANZAP. The next conference will be held in Hobart from 6th – 9th March 2012 and we look forward to seeing you there. Warm regards, Chris Waalkens |
