Welcome

Tena koutou katoa, Welcome to the New Zealand Nurses Organisation, Cancer Nurses College Conference.

As hosts, we warmly invite you to Christchurch, our unique city of contrasts with both ongoing demolition and innovative construction and reconstruction that is paving the way for a vibrant future.

Our conference theme 'Cancer Nursing Under Construction' is a reflection of what is happening in Christchurch after the 2010-2011 Canterbury earthquakes. Canterbury is focused on improvisation, rejuvenation and innovation to rebuild the environment and improve the wellbeing of Cantabrians.  Cancer Nursing within New Zealand is developing its own identity and evolving as a specialty. As cancer nurses we are influenced by improvisation, rejuvenation and innovation in research, clinical practice and developing technologies to provide high standards of care to people living with cancer.

The 'Cancer Nursing Under Construction' conference offers a variety of sessions with the aim of providing you, as a health professional involved in care of people living with cancer, tools to fill your cancer care toolbox. Delegates will be enriched with novice to expert classes, plenaries and concurrent speakers through education, research, technology, community and wellness topics.  The conference will enable delegates to explore their cancer knowledge, strengthen clinical skills and resources for the future development of cancer care in New Zealand.

The conference is being held at the Tait Communications Conference & Collaboration Centre. This is in close proximity to Christchurch Airport, with accommodation nearby and is easily accessible by walking or public transport/ complimentary shuttle. Additionally, there is ample free onsite parking.

Christchurch's Central Business District is a ten minute drive from the conference venue where you can explore the city's construction progress, take a leisurely walk through the central parks and gardens, or discover the abundance of cafes and authentic food trucks that are on offer.

Christchurch is the gateway to the South Island. If you wish to extend your stay, there are numerous activities for the avid adventurer such as exploring the Port Hills which is a spectacular setting for walks and biking. If you are after a minibreak, we encourage you to discover the quaint French flair of Akaroa which is located on Banks Peninsula or the Hanmer Springs thermal pools. Both are within a 90 minute drive of Christchurch.
