Welcome to the Health Profession Leaders Forum
“An opportunity for Association Presidents and CEO / Executive Directors”
This one day event is by invitation only and will attract Chief Executives and Presidents of Health sector associations from around the country.
The purpose of the forum is to provide an opportunity to assist participants in developing strategies and skills to enhance their leadership effectiveness. The forum content is designed to provide both a conceptual framework and practical tools to assist key organisational leaders to more effectively approach both the strategic challenges facing their organisations and the working relationships and processes involved at the governance level.
At this one day forum, Graeme Nahkies from Boardworks International will lead interactive, small group scenarios with a focus on the challenges that as leaders of health profession associations we all face.
The four key themes that will be discussed include:
First things first - the power of purpose
The potential for effective governance leadership is often not realised because of a preoccupation at the board level with organisational activities and operations. This session is designed to be an exploration of concepts and tools that will assist participants as the key thought leaders in their organisations to first articulate and then focus on what must be achieved by their organisations (as opposed to what must be done).
Herding cats - facilitating the high-performance board
Effective leadership of a governing group consisting of a bunch of individuals each with their own preoccupations and priorities who only come together occasionally is a challenge of the highest order. This session will explore the role of the chairman in getting the best possible performance from what John Carver has described as “an incompetent group of competent people".
Helping your board to help yourself
In not-for-profit organisations particularly, effective governance is as much dependent on the chief executive as on the board itself. This session is focused on how Chief Executives can provide more effective support for their boards and, in the process, makes their own lives easier!
The Dynamic Duo
There is possibly no more important relationship between two individuals in an organisation as between the chair and chief executive. The challenge is for two high profile organisational leaders to team effectively with each other and with the board as a whole without confusing roles and responsibilities and undermining accountabilities.
The Forum will conclude with a Forum Dinner held at Martin Bosley’s Restaurant, which will give participants a further opportunity to network and discuss the day’s events. Space is limited and invitations are non transferable so please register your interest as soon as possible.
We look forward to welcoming you to Wellington in March.
Yours sincerely
