Welcome to the 47th Annual Conference & AGM

New leaders, New Learners - Leadership in ECE

‘Ina te mahi, he rangatira’

I warmly invite you to join us at the 47th NZCA Annual Conference & AGM.

Our 2010 conference showcases the latest and best international thinking and developments in early childhood education at one of New Zealand’s newest conference venues the Marlborough Convention Centre in the heart of wine country, Blenheim.

New Leaders, New Learners draws together participants from many branches of early childhood education to discuss the development of leadership practices in early childhood.

As ever, the NZCA Annual Conference provides New Zealand’s best opportunity to discuss the key issues, best initiatives and newest developments in ECE, both at home and overseas. The conference workshops will showcase the innovative and practical ways in which the sector continues to respond to the challenges we face. Our successful facilitated kōrero sessions return this year to give delegates an opportunity to debate issues and exchange ideas.

Our keynotes for 2010 are lead by Manjula Waniganayake, Associate Professor at the Institute of Early Childhood, Macquarie University, Australia. Manjula has been involved in advocacy for early childhood through key positions held on the Boards of many organisations including Early Childhood Australia and UNICEF. As an expert in early childhood leadership she is a highly sought after conference speaker and the author of several internationally renowned publications.

Aroaro Tamati and Hinerangi Korewha from Te Kopae Piripono Centre of Innovation will bring a practitioner’s perspective through an exciting and inspirational keynote exploring the Reconceptualising of Leadership in Early Childhood Education.

David Giles from the Department of Professional Studies in Education at the University of Waikato will be delivering a thought-provoking keynote titled ‘Learning from relational experiences: Implications for leadership’. For teachers and anyone working in education, David’s keynote is a must-see.

Brigid Carroll is the Principal Researcher at the New Zealand Leadership Institute and Department of Management and International Business at The University of Auckland. She is one of New Zealand’s foremost thinkers on leadership and brings expertise in the use of language and story in leadership practice. Brigid’s approach to leadership will provide insight for anyone working in a leadership capacity.

Rahui Reid Katene MP, the Maori Party Member for Te Tai Tonga will bring her political perspective in a keynote entitled ‘Women in Leadership Roles / Mana Wahine’.

For travellers, Blenheim is home to New Zealand’s best known wineries and an array of high quality boutique vineyards showcasing some of New Zealand’s greatest wines. A delight for any visitor.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Judy Kaa,
NZCA Council President
