Evidence Based Library & Information Practice Workshop: Walking the Walk
LIANZA Conference Health SIG Study Day

Saturday 29 October 10-4 p.m.
Harbour View Lounge, Michael Fowler Centre, Wellington

The LIANZA Health SIG proudly presents a workshop by Andrew Booth.

Evidence Based Library and Information Practice (EBLIP), formerly known as Evidence Based Librarianship, is a new and exciting paradigm currently gaining popularity throughout the library world. This model to improve the day-to-day decision-making of practising librarians is supported by its own online open access journal, by an established international conference series and by a substantial body of professional literature. This course aims to translate the theory into practice by presenting and modelling approaches to integrating evidence into daily decisions. The course follows the stages of the well-recognised evidence based practice process combining didactic introductions with case study materials that simulate real-life decision-making. It will include a significant section on reflective practice, particularly relevant in the age of professional registration and revalidation.

Course Objectives

By end of the course each participant will have:

  • gained skills in evidence based practice process in a library setting;
  • acquired working knowledge of techniques for tackling implementation in an area of interest;
  • gained insights from considering perspectives of those leading implementation and recipients;
  • experienced benefits of small group project-based working in problem-solving context;
  • identified further training needs associated with provision of evidence based library and information services.

Who Should Attend

This course is appropriate for any library or information professional interested in learning more about the application of evidence to their day-to-day practice, whether at a personal, team, or organisational level. This course, which requires no previous knowledge of evidence based library and information practice, will examine tools and techniques for treating EBLIP as an integral part of day-to-day practice.
