MDSANZ Movement Disorders Therapeutics Practical Workshop 2020

24-25 October 2020
Westmead Education and Conference Centre
Westmead Hospital, Sydney

The Movement Disorder Society of Australia and New Zealand (MDSANZ) is the professional society in Australia and New Zealand representing neurologists and other medical specialists who specialise in the care and management of patients with Movement Disorders such as Parkinson's disease, other causes of neurodegenerative Parkinsonism (e.g. progressive supranuclear palsy and multiple system atrophy), dystonia and Huntington's disease.  The MDSANZ's broad membership includes physicians, advanced trainees in neurology, neuroscientists, nursing and allied health practitioners.

In addition to our biennial scientific meetings, the MDSANZ introduced a "Movement Disorder Therapeutics Practical Workshop" in 2016.  The most recent Workshop was held in Melbourne in 2018.  It was well-attended, generously supported by industry sponsors, and was a great success. This year, we will be holding the Workshop in Sydney from Saturday, 24 to Sunday, 25 October 2020.  The Workshop is primarily designed for neurology trainees, and provides them with an introduction to therapies commonly used in the management of Parkinson's disease (PD) and other movement disorders, including deep brain stimulation, infusional therapies for PD (e.g. apomorphine and levodopa infusion), and botulinum toxin treatment.  In addition to neurology trainees, other interested neurologists, geriatricians, physicians and nurses are also welcome to attend.  For this year's Workshop, Dr Neil Mahant of Westmead Hospital in Sydney has convened a panel of Australian and New Zealand experts, and their emphasis will be the practicalities of using these therapies in clinical practice.  Please see the draft programme here for further details.

To enable the Workshop to proceed in these ever-changing circumstances, it will now take the form of a hybrid event. There will be a face-to-face meeting at Westmead Hospital for Sydney-based attendees alongside a virtual offering for those that cannot attend in person due to COVID-19 restrictions.

While a different format to originally planned, we are excited to be able to offer a solution allowing for the training, education and exchange of knowledge which makes the Workshop such an important part of the MDSANZ annual calendar!

We invite you to register here and look forward to having you join us in October - whether it be in-person or virtually!

Yours sincerely,

Thomas Kimber
President, Movement Disorder Society of Australia and New Zealand
