The Insulin Workshop is a practical half day session that aims to:

  • Instigate change in insulin use by GPs through practical and interactive workshops presented by HCPs who are advanced in diabetes management
  • Provide attendees with the practical knowledge, skills and hands-on experience required to initiate insulin in their practice 
  • Share best practice in treatment of Type 2 diabetes in Primary Care.

Learning objectives for the Insulin Workshop

After attending this Active Learning Module participants will be able to:

  • Apply current type 2 diabetes (T2D) management guidelines in clinical practice
  • Confidently address the barriers to achieving A1C targets and starting insulin in patients with T2D
  • Confidently initiate a patient on basal insulin and optimise insulin management in patients with T2D using a step-by-step approach
  • Confidently switch a patient onto another insulin regimen and optimise insulin management in these patients

This is an opportunity to listen to and discuss issues specific to nurses and rural nursing.  Plans are to cover topics such as; standing orders, ACC contracts, professional development, PDRP in the rural setting, research in practice and getting involved through the media and the political spectrum . There will be time for Q and A and the opportunity for open discussion from the floor. The more attendees the more robust the discussion, so come along!

On Friday, March 9 Medical Protection Society (MPS) will be conducting focus groups at the NZRGPN conference in Queenstown. This is an opportunity for MPS members to come along and have a say about MPS and the service it provides in New Zealand.  Those who attend will be compensated for their time. The focus groups: will be independently monitored, will run for approximately 90 minutes starting at 10.30am and 2.30pm. Expressions of interest to participate can be made by contacting MPS or the NZRGPN before the conference, details below, or via the registration desk at the conference.

Ultrasound Workshop

This workshop is not an introduction to Clinician Performed Ultrasound but aimed that those who have already had formal training and are using CPU in their day to day practice
Suggested topics:

 

  • Achilles tendon
  • Testicular torsion
  • Normal values
  • Chest Ultrasound
  • Cardiac – measuring LV function

We intend putting aside a fair bit on time to look at cases.   Please bring along several interesting cases you have come across.  Even better, bring ones you have had problems with.  Bring the images on a pen drive so we can look at them as a group.
