Passport/Visa Information
Make sure you get all the official stuff right first. Any passport information can be found online or talk to your local travel agent. For information about New Zealand’s visa requirements, click here.
Language
Because we are a clever bunch we don’t just have one but three official New Zealand languages. The primary language spoken is English and the second is New Zealand’s native language Maori. In April 2006, New Zealand became the first country to declare sign language an official language.
Time Zone
To ensure that you’re rested and rearing to go when you arrive, remember that local Wellington time during October is 13 hours ahead of GMT (GMT +13). Interesting fact: We are also the first country in the world to see the sun each day.
Money Matters
New Zealand uses a decimal currency system. Normal banking hours are Monday to Friday, 0900 – 1630. Banks are closed on weekends and on public holidays.
Most international credit cards are honoured in hotels, restaurants, shops and department stores. All goods and services are subject to a 15% Goods and Services Tax (GST) included in displayed prices.
You can also use the NZForex currency converter calculator to quickly and easily convert any amount of money from one currency into another.
